Our Story
Letters From Legends is a small crew of history buffs and teachers who believe the best way to learn about the past is to hear it speak. One chilly night over hot cocoa and a stack of vintage postcards, we wondered: What if George Washington could write you a note from Valley Forge? A few pen sticks, piles of research, and lots of ink smudges later, Letters From Legends was born.

What We Do
Every month we put together a real pen written (most of the time) letter from a different American hero. Each and every letter is:
-Painstakingly Researched: facts checked, dates double checked, myths busted.
-Written in First Person: so it feels like the legend is talking directly to you.
-Penned with Real Ink on Fine Stationery (mostly): because history shouldn’t feel like a print out.
-Paired with a Quick explainer sheet: perfect for curious kids and trivia-loving adults.
Why Real Pen and Paper?
Screens are great, but they can’t compete with the crinkle of quality paper or the swish of ink across a page. Holding a genuine letter lets you slow down, allow your imagination to run, and connect with the human behind the history textbook. George Washington didn’t send emails, he sent real letters to real people and that’s what we do. Note that the majority of our letters will be written using a real ink/fountain pen, some may be written through other means that are historically accurate. An example of this might be a typewriter from a more recent legend in American history.
How We Keep It Accurate (and Fun)
Our research team dives into diaries, speeches, and personal accounts to procure a slice of American history from an angle never seen before. Then our writers translate this swarm of esoteric knowledge into bite sized, informative, age appropriate, and most importantly, FUN storytelling. Finally our calligraphers bring it all to life with beautiful cursive script you’ll want to hang on the fridge.
